I first met Diane Lloyd-Hughes during research I was doing for a
book on local murders. I invited her to accompany me to the site
of a murder to see if she could tell me anything about it.
I did not tell her anything at all about the murder, and made an
appointment on a Sunday for the following day. This was to cut down
any research time she might have in an attempt to cull any information
from past records.
I met her on the Monday in a public car park and then took her to
the scene of the murder. Until we arrived she had no idea of the
location, the victim or indeed when it occurred.
I took with me my portable tape recorder for two reasons. Firstly
I wanted an accurate record of what was said, and secondly I wanted
to be sure that I did not unconsciously prompt her in any way. The
murder was a relatively unknown killing that took place in the 1920's
I only discovered it by accident when I was researching the Greenwood
case the same year.
We spent about two hours at the scene and Mrs Hughes accuracy was
phenomenal. She not only identified the correct room, but also such
details as bruising on the body, method of killing, what the victim
was wearing and also a host of other facts that I am quite certain
could not have been obtained through any other source than the source
she claims.
I was also impressed that I have invited her to accompany me to
the scenes of other murders and she has agreed. All the visits will
be made under the same conditions, i.e.. no knowledge of where or
when the incident took place, and every visit to be recorded for
accuracy.
Yours sincerely
